Athletics at a Virtual School

Ellie GlynnSitting at a computer all day, sleeping in, playing video games, these thoughts and more might characterize what people think virtual school students do, but this is not the case. Ellie Glynn, a Junior at Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA), would throw all of those stereotypes out the window.  She is very active in her community which includes participating in high school sports.  You might wonder how this is possible with her being a virtual school student.  Students at WCA are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities through the Appleton Area School District.  Ellie lives in the Fox Valley so coming to Appleton worked out great.  Ellie has been swimming for the past 8 years and this past fall earned a Varsity letter in swimming from the Appleton West Swim team.  She swam in just about every event for the team to help cover for the many injuries and illnesses that the team endured, her favorite was the 200 IM.   With swimming wrapping up, we wondered if Ellie would become one of those stereotypes, not a chance.  Ellie will stay busy lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons at Appleton West, snowboarding, training for a mini triathlon, and leading worship for her high school youth group.  If you want to keep up with Ellie and her goals in life check out her website and blog.
